COVID-19 Shelter In Place: Week 1 (March 13th-March 20th)

With this announcement on March 16th, our world took an unexpected turn....

"Contra Costa County, along with 5 other Bay Area counties have issued a shelter-in-place order Monday, March 16. The order states that residents must stay inside and venture out only for necessities for three weeks starting Tuesday, March 17 in an attempt to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus."

Our kids had been out of school (planned days off) since March 13th and things were already getting a bit dicey in terms of the virus. Anna had been sick, with a cough of all things,  so we had already for the most part been sheltering in place for fear of spreading whatever she had.  The school announced on the 13th that we would be starting two weeks of remote learning the following week following a half day on the 17th in which they could come to school and gather all the materials they would need.

The official "Shelter in Place" announcement on the 16th meant that the kids would not have a chance to go back to school to get their things and that parents had to make a mad dash to school that afternoon to grab everything they could. That would be my last time driving my car for 23 days.... Since then, soccer, softball, baseball, cub scouts, choir, and every other activity on our schedule has been canceled.

While life is certainly not exciting, we have nothing real to complain about. I've been trying to take at least one photo a day to chronicle this crazy time in our lives. I'm sure at some point in the future we'll look back on this time and hardly believe it was real. Until then, we'll continue to go to school from home, meet with our soccer teams over Zoom, do soccer training in the garage/backyard and have cocktail hours with friends on our computers….

A good reminder

First chance to "see" his classmates since this all started. It made him SO happy. He was at a point where he really needed to see these faces.

If I recall, correctly, he had just had his first emotional meltdown over missing his friends and it really helped.
