"Firelady" Anna
Since moving to our new house, I joined our neighborhood mothers' group - a group of about 30 or so women who live nearby. This past Wednesday we had our first chance to take part in one of the activities, a tour of our local fire station!
When we first found out we would get to go on a tour Anna asked me what we would do if the firemen had to go to an emergency when we were there. Well, she found out! We'd been there for about 2 minutes, admiring the 8 leather easy chairs surrounding a big screen TV in the station's living room when there was a medical emergency and the guys had to go. Grant, our tour guide said they could be gone only 10 minutes or it could be an hour. But, we were welcome to hang out for a while and if we were still there when they got back he'd finish our tour.
It was a little strange being essentially along in the fire station, but we explored and found our houses on the large maps that line the hallway walls, and after about 25 minutes the crew returned and we were able to finish our tour. Grant was a champion tour guide and tailored his tour perfectly toward 4 preschool age girls!
Showing the girls the chainsaws
Such good listeners!
Demonstrating how to use his earplugs
One of the highlights of the tour - tape measures!
Helping Grant push his shelf back into the truck
Checking out the thermal infrared camera
And of course, running in circles in the truck garage (Anna's friend here is Molly who lives just a few houses down the street from us)
Possibly THE highlight of the tour - washing their hands like firemen in the firemen's bathroom
Learning a valuable lesson about what happens if you leave things on the stove unattended for too long (based on what happened in the station's kitchen just the night before!)
Thanks Fireman Grant!!
