Soccer Class!
When we first heard that there was a soccer class for really little kids, we laughed. But then Anna decided that kicking a ball around the living room was her favorite thing in the world. ("Daddy kick...Adam kick...soccer ball...", etc.) So we signed her up, and for the past three Saturday mornings we've been heading over to the indoor soccer facility for a bit of semi-organized chaos.
Now, first of all, this is not really soccer. A parent has to be on the field with the kids, and they basically just do a bunch of pseudo-drills and games that mimic various soccer "skills" - running, red light / green light, blowing bubbles and kicking them, and occasionally turning them loose with an actual soccer ball. Then there's the parachute game, the relevance of which I'm still not entirely clear on.
They allow kids to enter as early as 18 months, so you get all kinds - the two-year olds who just run all the other kids over, the kids who can barely run and get swung like a croquet mallet by their parents, and the ones like Anna who actually do try to mind their own business and kick the balls around. And don't get me started on the varying levels of control the parents have over their little ankle biters.
But Anna loves it. She loves her uniform (yes, they have uniforms), her soccer shoes, running, kicking, and giving high-fives to her coach. She isn't too sure about some of the other kids - not that I blame her - but overall she holds her own.
Now, since many of you have been asking, here are a few pics of our little Marta...
