Catching Up

Ok, time to get back in the saddle and churn out some actual content here. (It's too easy to just slap up some pictures and call it good.)

Business Trips and Babysitters

Earlier this month, Karen had to go to Dallas for a business meeting for a day and a half. So I got my first crack at flying solo with Anna for an extended period. Thankfully, no fires were started and no one got dropped on their head. The following week, I had to be in Chicago for the entire week for a training class. Karen's parents were kind enough to come visit for the week to help out. And I, despite my best intentions, of course managed to not catch up on any of the sleep that I was so desperately craving.

Later in the month, Anna had her first nighttime visits from her nanny. Karen and I went out to the Undertones concert on the 21st and to dinner for her birthday on the 26th, and Nadya came over both times to cover for us and get the little one to sleep. Anna was quite confused to see Nadya walk in the door at 6pm!

Baptism Preview

Two weekends ago, we attended the baptism of Grace Gagnon, where I was privileged to be the designated photographer at the church and Anna got her first look at the christening hoopla. However, we've decided that the people who schedule baptisms have clearly never had infants of their own. Two o'clock in the afternoon? That is prime nap time, people!!! Needless to say, with mediocre and all-too-short naps, Anna and her buddy Connor were both disaster areas after an hour or so at Justin and Ali's house. Can't wait to do it again when Anna gets baptized in late June (yes, at 2:00 in the afternoon).

Crawling Update

We are almost...there...with...the...crawling... She hasn't quite figured it out yet, but we have seen several events which could be considered a crawl step or two. She's very good at what we've dubbed "The Inchworm", where she pushes herself up on all fours, walks her knees/feet forward without moving her hands, and then crashes down to her stomach, extending her arms to advance her torso 3-4 inches. Then she pushes up again and repeats. By this alone, she has managed to wander over to the stereo receiver - pretty lights and buttons! - so it's time to start baby-proofing. The bookshelf speakers are coming off their stands this weekend; they are the baby equivalent of having two grand pianos balancing on 10-foot broom handles in your living room.

The Snot-Monster

Lucky me, I came down with a cold a week ago - coincidentally, after a long night of singing at the top of my lungs in a bar with the current version of my college a cappella group. Luckier me, I managed to give it to my daughter. So she has been extremely fussy during the day and sleeping horribly the last couple nights. Her nose runs, and coupled with the teething drool, she ends up gagging herself and kicking and flailing and screaming. Then her nose gets stuffed, so she can't breathe through it, so she freaks out and kicks and flails and screams. (Hey, at least that gets her some oxygen.) All in all, it makes for an outrageously difficult bedtime process and 2-3 wakeups during the night. And she's too young for cold medicine, so there's nothing we can do but ride it out. Ugh...

We'll get some more pictures up shortly. Thanks for checking back in!

I think small children should be put in fridges more often. Especially 5 and 6 year old Kindergarteners...cages would be even better! Great work! You are way ahead of the game!
