Babies Are Like Heroin

So my buddy Marc from work has this theory. Actually, I suppose I should back up and tell you a bit about Marc. He's a really intellectual and insightful guy, the kind of dude who randomly gets you into a fairly deep political discussion over a burrito at the airport gate. He's also a number of years older than me, and he's married without kids. So his take on babies is one borne purely out of observation. And it is genius. The below is roughly paraphrased, but you get the idea. Enjoy...

"You ever notice people who are on heroin? They're off in their own little world. All they can think about is heroin. All they can talk about is heroin. They only hang out with other people who are on heroin. They try to convince people who aren't on heroin that they should try it, telling them that they don't know what they are missing. Meanwhile, people who aren't on heroin tend to avoid people who are, and generally fail to see the appeal in being on heroin.

Now think about the people you know who have babies. They're off in their own little world. All they can think about are babies. All they can talk about are babies. They only hang out with other people who have babies. They try to convince people who don't have babies that they should try it, telling them that they don't know what they are missing. Meanwhile, people who don't have babies tend to avoid people who do, and generally fail to see the appeal in having babies."

That reminds me, if you are pushing 30 or a new parent, this is both sad and awesome and worth a look: http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/b776c00c54.
